Step into film history with this one-of-a-kind screening. A truly immersive experience – featuring live musical accompaniment by Duo Yumeno (koto and cello), and a special introduction by Bucknell University professor Eric Faden.
For a brief period in the 1930s, Japan produced films on paper instead of celluloid. Though this unusual format has largely faded from memory, the Japanese Paper Film Project partnered with museums, archives, and collectors across Japan to digitize and preserve over 200 surviving works. This curated program showcases a selection of these rare “paper films” – including both live-action and anime treasures.
